LOOKING GOOD: EASY STEPS TO FABULOUS FEET
Just because they're at the bottom, doesn't mean you should ignore them. Uncared for feet, aside from being unattractive and making you look and feel older, can contribute to fatigue, backache, muscle strain, and tension.
1. Keep away callouses
Mix 1 tsp. chamomile, 1 tbsp. lemon juice, and 1 clove of garlic (chopped). Rub this onto your callouses and then cover feet for 1-5 minutes with plastic bags. Rinse with warm (not hot) water and then rub callouses with a pumice stone or soft brush, (regular pumicing after baths or showers can prevent callouses and corns from forming. And so do well-fitting shoes.)
2. Saying bye-bye to bunions
These painful bumps, usually on the joint of the big toe, are most often caused by tight, ill-fitting shoes, though they can be genetically inherited. Temporary relief can be provided by wearing pads that protect the bunion from friction and by avoiding constricting footwear. Also, since bunions are a form of bursitis, foods rich in vitamin Â12 (beneficial to cells in bone marrow) and E (helpful in bursitis treatment) are advised. Supplements of vitamin A, 10,000 IU daily, and vitamin C, 1,000 mg., daily, should be included in the regimen if there is infection.
3. Tuning up tired feet
Whenever sitting, rotate ankles, clockwise and then counterclockwise; great for circulation. Also, try a quickie foot massage by putting some dried beans into a pair of flat shoes and walking around in them. Picking up pencils with your toes (or at least attempting to) gives small foot muscles a fine workout. To ease foot strain after a long day, wiggle feet under a stream of hot tub water for several seconds, then do the same under cold. Switch from hot to cold several times. Moisturize your feet afterward by combining an ounce of cocoa butter with an ounce of wheat germ oil and rubbing the mixture over your feet with a wet washcloth.
4. Preventing foot problems
When purchasing new shoes, always do so at the end of the day. Your feet can swell as much as 10 percent between morning and late afternoon.
