When sugar levels in the blood remain high, damage can occur in the tiniest of the blood vessels transporting oxygen to tissues. These tiny arteries or arterioles become scarred and clogged with cholesterol' containing plaque. The damage in such cases is widespread throughout the body, with virtually all tissues receiving less than adequate supplies of blood and oxygen. But without such fine-tuning, blood has a tendency to pool, blood pressure is abnormally low, and the individual has a tendency to faint.
